Newsperson/Special
Projects
Catholic News Service, a
division of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, is seeking applications
from interested in joining its newsroom staff. Duties include:
- Identify, recruit
and guide outside contributing writers for op-ed and religious education
services.
- Ensure timely submission of quality articles, initiate payment for
articles.
- Develop and seek out story ideas for long-range projects of benefit
to CNS clients and readers.
- Use effectively and competently print and
electronic forms of communication media Interact with publishing clients and
others on CNS materials.
- Work with other CNS writers’ visual media staff and
editors to complete editorial packages.
- Be versed in trends in the gathering
and distribution of news to help keep CNS competitive.
The position is covered
by the contract CNS has with The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of
America. Successful applicants should be able to work in print and electronic
media with ease. Fluency in Spanish is helpful but not a requirement.
Applicants should have at least four-to-five years' experience in the Catholic
and/or general press.

Sales Manager
Loyola Press is a Catholic
publisher located on Chicago's North Side. We publish content in a variety of
formats to help children and adults learn about the Catholic Faith.
We are seeking a success-driven
Sales Manager responsible for directing a team of sales representatives. They
assign territories, set goals, and establish training programs for their sales
representatives to help grow market share.
Specific responsibilities
include:
- Represent
Loyola Press as a company who clearly sees God at work in the world
through our work.
- Develop
individual business plans and sales strategies for the identified markets
to ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
- Insures
that all Educational Consultants and Inside Sales Representatives are
meeting or exceeding activity standards for calls, leads, sample follow-up
and closes.
- Conducts
regular coaching and counseling with Educational Consultants and Inside
Sales Representatives to build motivation and selling skills.
- Provides
timely feedback to Director of Sales regarding team's and individual's
performance.
- Identify
and coordinate all training activity for team including presentations and
product knowledge.
- Work
with Educational Consultants, Inside Sales Representatives and Ministry
Consultants to determine appropriate exhibits to be attended by Loyola
Press.
- Conduct
weekly sales meetings.
- Ability
to travel.
The successful candidate will
have a B.A. and a minimum 3-5 years sales management experience. He/she will
have a solid understanding of the Catholic Faith, a passion for the customer,
and be able to work in a collaborative environment. The candidate must have the
ability to share the Loyola Press brand with passion, persuasion and
enthusiasm.

Educational Consultant

Educational Consultant (Sales Representative) to represent Loyola Press selling
its products/services to Parish Directors of Religious Education, Catholic
School Principals and their staffs developing high quality relationships
through frequent phone contact, written follow up, presence at major exhibits,
conventions and by making personal presentations or arranging them as invited.
Specific responsibilities
include:
- Represent
Loyola Press as a company who clearly sees God at work in the world
through our work.
- Achieve
annual Loyola Press sales goals for assigned territory.
- Work
with sales manager to create strategy within assigned territory.
- Maintain
detailed knowledge of major products conducting professional pre-sale and
post-sale presentations face-to-face or via webinar.
- Maintain
appropriate account records, lead files and calendars through CRM software
provided.
- Grow
Loyola Press faith formation share within the assigned territory. To
secure keynote, professional development and other speaking opportunities
in assigned territory.
- Establish
high-level, on-going relationship with the assigned Diocesan Directors of
Religious Education and staff.
- Respond
to incoming and outgoing leads and requests providing product information,
samples, and presentations as required.
- Achieve
a high level of Loyola Press awareness through personal presence and
customer satisfaction.
- Provide
outstanding service finding flexible, unique and innovative solutions to
customer problems.
- Represent
Loyola Press at approved exhibits and meetings within the territory or as
assigned and provide reports with feedback and any marketing intelligence.
- Possible
relocation.

Editor
Responsible
for editorial tasks in publishing office. Includes editing, proofreading, overseeing translations, and research. Maintain
deadlines and work flexibly within a team.
General
understanding of the Catholic Church required. Experience in editing and
reviewing page proofs necessary, including standard proofreading notation. Must
have bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or Communications with minimum 3-5 years of
relevant experience. Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, desktop
publishing, and Spanish language preferred.
